the Beauty of Small Business
I read an article on CNN.com that got me thinking about small businesses and why I have always enjoyed working with them.
At first it was a local clinic, then a local optometrist, then a local designer and so forth. What drove me away from the big corporate towers? Upon graduating, why didn’t I want to put my nose to the grind and take my place at a cubicle?
Well, THAT is why. I don’t want a cubicle. I don’t want to be an employee number. I don’t want to get the same amount week after week, regardless of how hard I train, try and work. I don’t want what I don’t earn. I want to earn and work better. I want more.
So it is no surprise to me, that many employees that have great jobs, are left feeling unsatisfied. They want more. They want to be able to have an idea in the morning and it be up and going by the afternoon. They want to be involved in the company culture and be listened to and matter. They want free range- is that SO much to ask?
More often than not, when you are passionate and excited about a company’s… well, anything, people will notice and it will become infectious and exciting. And more often than not, the answer will be “Yeah, let’s try it!”
Hence the beauty of small business.
